Excited about Quickpic

We're really excited by all the usage Quickpic is getting from the developer community. We currently have almost 30 other websites using Quickpic for image, video, and contact info uploading. We hope this number keeps growing, but this is a great start!

Quickpic 1.2 Available on iTunes

5 months, 3 weeks ago

Quickpic 1.2 added a bunch of cool features including the ability to choose multiple photos/videos and pick contacts (a feature that developers might be interested in). It's available on the iTunes App Store now.

Also, we've updated the support documentation, including correcting an oversight that we forgot about earlier related to server responses. Thanks to everyone that wrote in about the issue, and for your patience while we figured it out.

Quickpic 1.2 Pushed to Apple for Review

Quickpic 1.2 brings a bunch of really cool enhancements. The updates fall into two major types: updates for use as a standalone application, updates for website integration (developers).

For the standalone part Quickpic, you can now send multiple photos and/or videos in a single email. Email is also completely customizable and uses the native mail control, for a better overall user experience. There is a new option in settings, enabled by default, to resize images before uploading them. This makes it quite a bit faster. But, you can always turn the option off to get full-size images.

For developers, the big news is Address Book API integration. Since you can't access the iPhone's address book from Mobile Safari, Quickpic 1.2 gives a way to do that. You can even combine address book and media picking into a single request (Speed Dial will make use of this as soon as Quickpic 1.2 is live in the iTunes App Store). There's a bunch of new configuration options too. Developers can check out the Quickpic support page for full details.

Colors 2.2 is available

6 months, 3 weeks ago

One of our users pointed out that Colors 2.0 and 2.1 were very slow compared to 1.x. Having done most of our recent testing on a 3GS, we hadn't noticed. So, we're really grateful that user (royalsmartperson -- in their iTunes App Store review) said something. Colors 2.2, greatly improves performance, which is especially noticeable on the Edge and 3G versions of the iPhone. In particular, loading the palettes screen should be significantly faster, dragging the sliders on the palette editor page should be smoother, and selecting a photo for color extraction should be faster (from the time of selection to the first color extraction results appearing). We hope this improves the application for everyone.

One of our primary goals with 2.x is performance, so we should have paid more attention to this earlier. Thank you for your patience and please, always feel free to send us feedback. If you're having a technical problem with our software, email is generally the best way to get the message across, because sometimes it takes a brief conversation to pinpoint the exact issue.

Colors 2.1 is available

6 months, 3 weeks ago

We just got the notice that Colors 2.1 is ready for sale, so it should start showing up in the Update tab soon. This version adds copy-and-paste, which we hope will be really helpful. It also keeps track of where you were when you left the program (though it ignores certain pages).

To copy: select one or more colors (in the palette editor) and click copy in the top area.

To paste: double-tap on an empty inkwell. It'll rotate through the empty inkwells in your palette filling as many as it can, skipping already filled inkwells.

Points: The Web App

Points is now available as a web app for all those users that don't have iPhones and/or iPod Touches. You can use it on your iPhone if you prefer as well. There's a link for it on our home page, or you can click here.

It's pretty nice to have a web version for when you're already in front of the computer as well. We hope you like it. We'd love to hear what you think about the web version as well as the iPhone version at talk2us@nextstop.com

Colors and Quickpic Updates

A couple days ago we released a minor update to Quickpic (1.0.1) with the addition of "from" fields in the settings page. If you fill these out, the emails will appear to be sent from you, which is nice to help give context for the photos you send. This update is already available on the iTunes App Store.

Also, just a few minutes ago, we pushed an update to Colors (2.1) with improved application-state recall and copy-and-paste features. Hopefully these will help the overall experience of using Colors.

If there's features you would like to see added to any of our products, please don't hesitate to email us at talk2us@cliqcliq.com to let us know.

Colors 2 is on the App Store!

Hey everyone. Colors 2 is now available for purchase or free upgrade. We're really excited about it and hope you like it a lot too!

Also... if you're one of those people that gave us a poor rating because you didn't like the former Colors icon, please reconsider after checking out the new icon. We're really happy with it and we hope it's more pleasant to a wider range of users.

Points and Quickpic Available on the iTunes App Store

7 months, 1 week ago

In a surprise move by Apple, it looks like they approved and made ready-for-sale the all new cliqcliq Points and Quickpic apps! We really appreciate the time their reviewers must have been putting in over the holidays. Still waiting on the update for Colors to be approved, but we're really happy with this.

We're already starting to work with partners to start integrating Quickpic for use with their iPhone/iPod Touch web apps and we can't wait for everyone to try out Points.

A little about cliqcliq Points

Points is a brand new kind of social game that really gets at the core of what social gaming is all about. It let's you appreciate and compete with your friends by awarding and taking away points. Unlike other social games though, the real rules are up to the players. People can give and take points for any reason: "nice shirt", "bad joke", "great book recommendation", and so on. We tried to make it something that could appeal to a broad base of people, be very accessible (web support coming soon), fun, and something that could outlive the fads of other social games. We think it's really fun to play with friends, coworkers, and family because it helps you remember (and evaluate) the funny, stupid, ridiculous, and monumental moments of everyday life and social interaction.

Newsletter

We've just sent out our second newsletter. We don't send them out very often because we only want to send them when we have something important to say. Since we have a whole slew of new apps coming out, we thought this would be an appropriate time. If you're not on our newsletter mailing list and would like to be, please send an email to join_newsletter@cliqcliq.com and we'll make sure you're added. We're Back!

7 months, 1 week ago

Hey everyone. We're back! Well we haven't really been gone. We've just been working really hard on a bunch of cool stuff and getting organized to really come into full force.

cliqcliq is happy to announce three new products:

  • Colors 2
  • Points
  • Quickpic

that are coming soon. We are just waiting for approval from Apple at the moment. We're really excited about these products and think they're a huge step forward for us.

The new support pages are up so please take a look. Some pages may not be fully fleshed out yet, so please be patient, but also send us your feedback.

We've also been, and are continuing, to work with Yahoo! on their Yahoo! Shopping app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. It's been really great working with them so far and we're looking forward to making it a killer product.

We'll post an update once the apps hit the iTunes App Store! We're excited!

Tech Paper: Color Extraction

1 year, 9 months ago

At cliqcliq, we love technology and want to be open and transparent about the technologies we develop and use. We also hope to give back to the developer community and encourage discussion with all of our customers. With that in mind, we present our first paper we would like to share.

The paper is titled Predominant Color Extraction from Images on Mobile Devices. It is a high-level (white paper) description of the techniques used for our photo color extraction tool available in cliqcliq Colors 1.1. We're really excited about this technology so we hope you enjoy Colors and find this paper interesting.

You can downlad the paper from the following link: Predominant Color Extraction from Images on Mobile Devices (PDF)

cliqcliq Colors 1.1 now available!

1 year, 9 months ago

[Updated 10/21/2008] cliqcliq Colors 1.1 has been released on iTunes today! We're incredibly excited about the feature set in this release and can't believe it's been less than 3 weeks since we released version 1.0! We've had some time to reflect on our own use of Colors as well as to absorb the great feedback we got from many of our customers and we think new and existing customers will be equally excited about these updates.

What's new in this version? To start, we're happy announce 3 major new features:

  • Integration with the iPhone Camera and Photo Library (on both iPhone and iPod Touch) for automatic palette creation
  • Sharing palettes via email
  • Multiple palette support (this was a highly requested feature)

We're very excited about all of these features but especially think iPhone Camera and Photo Library integration is a huge step forward in making Colors the best mobile color utility on the market. We use advanced image processing techniques that help you get exactly the color you're looking for. We believe this feature takes cliqcliq Colors from an application aimed mostly at web developers and designers, and opens it up to a much broader set of people interested in creating color palettes for uses such as interior design, color matching, and more.

However, as we mentioned, the camera integration is not all we're releasing in this update. We've also added in the ability to email palettes to yourself or friends in the following formats:

  • Adobe Photoshop (ACO)
  • Adobe Illustrator (ASE)
  • Bitmap Image
  • Text

We think this makes Colors much more useful for everyone, even people that haven't bought our app yet! With Colors 1.1, whenever you create a palette, it's no longer stuck on your phone. You can easily import it into your favorite design or development applications, or send it to your friends or coworkers.

Our last major new feature is the ability to work with multiple palettes. Each palette can include up to 12 colors and can be named and favorited if desired. This is ideal for those of you juggling several projects at once.

In addition to all of these major new features, we've also made significant performance improvements and fixed some bugs. If you're already using cliqcliq Colors, you'll notice the sliders in version 1.1 are much more responsive and move with much more granularity than with the previous release. You will also notice some improvements to the user interface including an updated and repositioned scale button and more space between the color sliders and text inputs.

Screenshots of Colors 1.1

That's it for this update. We're already planning and developing our next set of updates, but before we get too far in, we'd really like to hear from our customers about what features you'd like to see. A lot of the development for this release was either driven by customer feedback or validated by it, so we greatly appreciate those that have taken the time to write to us and share their thoughts.

Version 1.1 of cliqcliq Colors is available now on iTunes, feel free to download cliqcliq Colors 1.1 at the following URL (Launches iTunes):

cliqcliq Colors 1.1

We've worked very hard to get these updates out in under 3 weeks since our first release. If you're as excited about this new feature set as we are, we would greatly appreciate if you'd tell your friends, family, colleagues and anyone else you may know about this release.

Thanks again for your support,

Brian & Kyle, cliqcliq co-founders

Thanks to everyone who tried Colors

1 year, 9 months ago

Hello, everyone - we wanted to share a quick note with our customers to say thank you for taking the time to invest in, and try our first application for iPhone and iPod Touch.

We've sold more copies than we had anticipated and, perhaps more exciting, in less than the first 72 hours since Colors was released on iTunes, we've already sold copies to people in 19 different countries! That's something that neither of us expected, and we're happy to have folks trying our application from all over the world, including the following countries:

  • Australia
  • Belgium
  • Brazil
  • Canada
  • China
  • Czech Republic
  • Denmark
  • France
  • Germany
  • Great Britain
  • Greece
  • Ireland
  • Italy
  • Japan
  • Mexico
  • Norway
  • Russia
  • Spain
  • United States

This has been a great, welcoming experience to the iTunes App Store community! In addition, we've also received emails from customers who have taken time to send us their very constructive feedback. We appreciate this extra step from our customers, and we believe this is actually the most rewarding part of the entire experience so far. We're actively listening to customer feedback and suggestions, and where we believe it makes sense, we will do our best to fit user suggestions into our product roadmaps.

In the meantime, while we're designing and developing new updates, we'll also be working on posting more robust support pages for Colors, including a list of frequently asked questions that we hope will address some of the customer feedback we've been receiving. If you have any questions or concerns you'd like addressed, please email them to the following address: talk2us@cliqcliq.com

Lastly, we have a number of new features planned that we will likely start talking about as they get closer to release. We're hoping to start rolling these new features out every 2-4 weeks over the course of the next couple months, so please stay tuned. You can keep checking this blog for updates or, if you prefer, subscribe to our RSS feed and have news and updates sent to you.

All the best,

-Brian & Kyle, cliqcliq co-founders
